The Business Network for Offshore Wind has welcomed the passing of the Inflation Reduction Act through the US Senate.
Its president and chief executive Liz Burdock (pictured) called the Senate’s passage of the Inflation Reduction Act a “watershed moment” in America’s renewable energy transition.
She said: “This historic legislative package sends a message to the world that the US is serious about bolstering supply chain resiliency, increasing American energy security, and reaching our ambitious goal to deploy 30GW of offshore wind power by 2030.
“The bill’s $40bn investment in domestic clean energy manufacturing and shipbuilding is an important down payment that will unleash the vast potential of offshore wind and localize a supply chain on American shores creating thousands of good-paying jobs.
“Today’s vote represents a momentous leap forward, but the work is not done-the House must act swiftly to send this legislation to President Biden’s desk.”
American Clean Power’s preliminary assessment of the Act meanwhile found it will deliver an estimated 525GW to 550GW of new, utility-scale clean power from 2022-2030.
Biden said in a statement that the bill would address the climate crisis and strengthen the US’s energy security, creating jobs manufacturing solar panels, wind turbines, and electric vehicles in America with domestic workers.
The legislation will now be considered by the US House of Representatives.
