US President Joe Biden will announce that the country will hold an offshore wind auction in the Gulf of Mexico on 29 August, the White House has stated.
Set to speak in Philadelphia later today at the steel-cutting ceremony for the first offshore wind vessel of its kind to be Made in America and Jones Act compliant, Biden will announce that the Department of the Interior will issue the final sale notice for the first-ever offshore wind lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico.
The sale will include one lease area of 102,480 acres offshore Lake Charles, Louisiana, and two lease areas totalling nearly 200,000 acres offshore Galveston, Texas.
This process will follow the administration’s offshore wind sales in the New York Bight, Carolina Long Bay, and northern and central California.
The move aims to further the Biden-Harris Administration’s goal of building 30GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030.
