US Wind said it is working to reach commercial operations at its 270MW MarWin wind farm off America’s east coast in 2025.
The developer told reNEWS that a filing to the Public Service Commission of Maryland suggesting commercial operations would be in December 2026 was a technical request.
The document was reported in yesterday’s subscriber-only edition reNEWS. US Wind said the paperwork grants it a “buffer” should the project be delayed.
However, senior director of external affairs Nancy Sopko said the project is not delayed and the company’s development team is still working on reaching the milestone in 2025.
Sopko said: “Given the uncertainties that exist in the global supply chain and geopolitical disruptions facing all offshore wind developers, coupled with federal permitting delays and PJM reform, we requested a “buffer” until the end of 2026 in order to account for uncertainties and delays that may be difficult to address, lacking an appropriate tail period.
“This buffer is also meant to optimise the economics of the project financing for the ultimate benefit of Maryland ratepayers,” she added.
