Van Oord and Kajima Corporation have been selected as the preferred balance of plant contractors for three offshore wind farms in Japan totalling 1700MW.
Kajima Corporation is aleading construction company in Japan and has a track record in marine construction work, as well as over 30 years of experience in building onshore wind farms.
The contract is Van Oord’s first of this size in Japan.
The projects, being developed by three consortiums led by Mitsubishi Corporation Energy Solutions, are located in Akita, northern Japan, and Chiba, near Tokyo.
They are a 391MW wind farm near Choshi in Chiba, a 479MW project off the coast of Noshiro, Mitane and Oga in Akita and a 819MW development off the coast of Yurihonjo in Akita.
Kajima and Van Oord have been supporting the three consortiums in developing the projects and will continue doing so.
Van Oord said that by joining forces with Kajima, it aims to contribute to the successful development of offshore wind as a sustainable energy source for Japanese society.
