Vattenfall has chosen the Dutch port of IJmuiden as a base for operations and maintenance activities at its 760MW in-development Hollandse Kust 1&2 offshire wind farm.
The developer said it will construct new facilities at the harbour in conjunction with the port owners.
A service centre with office space, boat landings and a store room for spare parts will be built in the IJmond harbour area of the port, with work due to start in early 2022.
Once complete, 40 staff will work on site, Vattenfall said.
“With a wind farm as large as this in particular, we need to have a good place where we can do our work to ensure that the wind farm will perform at an optimum level,” said Hollandse Kust 1&2 development manager Gijs Nijsten.
Vattenfall said it had chosen IJmuiden due to its proximity to the Hollandse Kust Zuid site and the fact the same location is used to service the 108MW Eegmon an Zee wind farm, which it holds a stake in.
The developer has also signed an agreement with Windcat Workboats to use hydrogen powered crew transfer vessels to ferry workers to and from the project.
Windcat will commercialise its hydrogen fleet from 2020.
Hollandse Kust 1&2 is due online by 2023.
