Vattenfall has won the rights to build the 600MW Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm in Denmark with a bid price of 37.2 ore per kilowatt-hour, around €50/MWh.
The Swedish utility beat competition from industry heavy-hitters including Dong, Statoil, EnBW and Eon to win the Danish government tender. It will invest up to €1.3bn in the project.
“There was historically fierce competition to build Kriegers Flak. Other bids will not be published,” said the Danish Energy Agency.
Energy Minister Lars Christian Lilleholt said the result “cements Denmark’s position as a global showcase and pioneer in offshore wind”.
It said the government is commited to supporting the project and sees a number of advantages in Kriegers.
The project is due to go live before end-2021 and will also be part of an interconnector with Germany.
Vattenfall called the result “an esssential milestone for our ambition to increase our production of renewable power”.
