Vattenfall is exploring the possibility of developing a new offshore wind farm named Kattegatt Syd off the coast of Sweden.
The developer said the project site is located approximately 25km off the coast of Falkenberg.
The area of approximately 177 square kilometres and is located just north of the planned Stora Middelgrund development, which Vattenfall acquired in 2019.
The company said the site of Kattegatt Syd is within the Swedish economic zone and is located outside Natura 2000 areas.
“The project is at an early stage and is currently preparing the application for the various permits required,” said Vattenfall.
It added that the authorities and municipalities have been informed about the proposed wind farm and the company is now collecting their views in order to best carry out environmental studies of the site.
“We are investigating a suitable connection point to the electricity grid on land and the landowners concerned will be contacted,” Vattenfall said.
A formal public consultation is planned for winter 2020.
Provided that permits are obtained and that investment decisions are made, Kattegatt Syd is expected to be completed by the end of the current decade, the company said.
