The government of Sweden has awarded Vattenfall a construction permit for the 640MW Swedish Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm to be located 30km south of Trelleborg in the south Baltic Sea.
Vattenfall’s application covers 40 to 50 wind turbines with maximum heights of 280 metres.
Commissioning is expected to be in 2028.
Vattenfall commissioned the 605MW Danish Kriegers Flak project last year.
Vattenfall chief executive Anna Borg said: “We are happy that the government has made this decision.
“If Sweden is to be able to meet customers’ future electricity needs, it is absolutely necessary to expand fossil free electricity production.
“Kriegers Flak would be a very valuable addition of electricity production in southern Sweden.”
Vattenfall said it planning for a possible final investment decision in 2025.
