Vattenfall has welcomed the shift to competitive offshore wind auctions in Germany and is likely to participate in this year’s first tender with three projects.
The Swedish developer says it is aiming to participate with its Global Tech 2, 584MW Atlantis 1 and the newly-titled 160MW Nordlicher Grund/Sandbank Plus offshore wind farms in the German North Sea.
The latter is a 16-turbine project located between Vattenfall’s existing 288MW Sandbank wind farm and WindMW’s planned 540MW Nordlicher Grund project.
“We welcome the shift to a tendering model as it will also lead to more competition and cost efficiency in Germany,” Vattenfall executive Gunnar Groebler said.
“The new framework conditions provide for the necessary planning security for the projects in an attractive competitive environment.”
With the recent win of the Kriegers Flak tender in Denmark for around €49.90 per megawatt-hour Vattenfall set “a new benchmark for cost efficiency”, Groebler added.
The German result will not be the same because framework conditions differ but the general trend towards higher cost efficiency will be delivered, he said.
