Veja Mate has started seabed preparation work at its 402MW wind farm located 95km northwest of the island of Borkum in the German North Sea.
The wind farm project team, led by Highland Group, will feature 67 Siemens 6MW turbines using XXL monopiles.
The base of the monopiles will be supported by a two layered scour protection system using stones of the right size and thickness.
The installation of the foundations is scheduled for April 2016 which will mark the start of the construction process.
Veja Mate project manager Rasmus Miller said: “A lot of hard work, from both our contractors, and our Veja Mate project team has been done to get ready for the seabed preparation.
“Beginning pre-construction work just 6 months after funding is an extremely short time schedule. I am happy that the Foundation Package has got off to a good start.”
Veja Mate shareholders include Siemens Financial Services and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners alongside Highland. The wind farm is expected to be fully operational in 2018.
