Ventolines will provide transport and installation (T&I) expertise on the substation, foundations, array cables, and wind turbines of the 804MW Mayflower wind project off the coast of Massachusetts.
The Dutch renewable energy consultants has also opened its first permanent US office in Boston.
Mayflower Wind is a joint venture of Shell New Energies and Ocean Winds, the global offshore wind collaboration between EDP Renewables and ENGIE.
The project is expected to generate enough clean electricity to power more than half a million Massachusetts homes when it comes onstream in 2025.
The project is using a Federal lease area about 30 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard and 23 miles south of Nantucket and has PPAs in place with Massachusetts utilities.
Ventolines’ director of contracting and construction Thibaut de Groen said: “As America begins to catch up to Europe, we are proud to be part of the team bringing more wind farms and sustainable energy to the US.”
“This project signals the advent of large-scale offshore wind energy in America, and we are pleased to be able to add our expertise on projects of this scale,” added Lorry Wagner, who is representing Ventolines in the US.
Ventolines supervised the installation of wind turbines and advised on asset management for the 30MW Block Island Wind Farm off Rhode Island.
It also supplied technical due diligence during the turbine selection, and technical support for negotiating the turbine supply contract for two Orsted US projects, the 120MW Skipjack Wind Farm off the Maryland coast and 132MW South Fork Wind off New York’s Long Island.
