Vestas has secured a conditional order agreement to supply turbines for EnBW’s 900MW He Dreiht offshore wind project in the German North Sea.
The Danish turbine manufacturer is to supply 64 of its V236-15.0 MW turbines for the wind farm in 2025 and will also service the project when operational for multiple years.
The deal cements a decision by EnBW in July last year to pre-select Vestas as its preferred supplier for the wind farm following an EU tender process.
Development work on the chosen turbine, which features 115.5-metre blades and a swept area of 43,742 square metres, is still progressing at Vestas’ R&D and production sites.
The first prototype turbine is due to be installed this year with serial production scheduled for 2024.
Vestas has meanwhile entered a second conditional agreement with Cadeler to transport and install the turbines for He Dreiht.
Installation is due to start in the second quarter of 2025 with commissioning anticipated for the fourth quarter of that year.
Vestas Northern & Central Europe president Nils de Baar said: “We are honoured to partner with EnBW in this conditional agreement for the He Dreiht wind project and provide our V236-15.0 MW turbine to help Germany achieve its ambitious offshore wind energy goals.
“This project highlights how Vestas plays a leading role in the rapid expansion of offshore wind by continuously striving to build stronger partnerships with our customers such as EnBW and providing the right solutions that enable them to deliver the ambitious projects needed to reach European offshore wind targets.”
EnBW head of generation portfolio development Michael Class said: “Only with state-of-the-art and cost-efficient technology we can realise offshore projects like He Dreiht without subsidies. The turbines from Vestas make a significant contribution to this.
“Offshore is not only technically demanding, but also requires solid forward-looking forecasts, knowledge of the market and the willingness take entrepreneurial risks before a final investment decision has been made.
“As one of the pioneers in German offshore history, we would like to use He Dreiht to further contribute to making offshore wind energy available for the German market.”
