Vestas has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) to advance a wind turbine manufacturing base in Japan.
The company said the agreement builds on collaboration since July 2025 through a joint working group focused on pathways to promote continuous large-scale deployment of onshore and offshore wind power and investment in the local supply chain.
METI and Vestas also agreed to collaborate on establishing final nacelle assembly in Japan by fiscal year 2029, subject to securing firm orders through Japan’s auction system, while developing a roadmap toward full nacelle assembly by fiscal year 2039, the company added.
In parallel, Vestas signed separate memorandums of understanding with Nippon Express and DENZAI to strengthen supply chain cooperation in Japan.
The agreements will explore collaboration with Nippon Express on logistics and O&M services for wind power projects and assess potential cooperation with DENZAI on engineering services including lifting plans, crane allocation, crane supply and turbine installation.
