SAL Heavy Lift has signed a contract with Van Oord to transport foundations for Dong Energy’s 660MW Walney Extension offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea.
Under the terms of the deal, SAL’s Svenja vessel will transport 87 monopiles from Rostock in Germany to Belfast.
It will also deliver 87 transition pieces to Belfast – 47 from Aalborg in Denmark and 40 from Teesside in the UK’s northeast.
The monopiles will have a maximum diameter of 8.4 metres and weigh 940 tonnes each, while each transition piece will be up to 30 metres long, seven metres wide and weigh about 570 tonnes.
