RWE boosted power generation by 5% to 107.1 billion kWh in the first half of the year, partly on the back of new renewables capacity.
The German utility said group EBITDA dropped 5% to €3bn in the period driven by losses in its trading business and capital spending fell 30%, compared with a year ago.
Spending was also lower in its renewables division due to the completion of the offshore wind farms Gwynt y Môr and Nordsee Ost in 2015, it said.
New wind capacity and improved market conditions for gas power plants helped increase output, the company said.
RWE said its reorganisation is going according to plan, following the opening of its new renewables, grids and retail business in April.
The unit, named Innogy from September, will list 10% of its shares through a capital increase before the end of the year.
RWE maintained its earnings forecast for the full year.
