Fred Olsen Windcarrier has won a turbine installation contract from MHI Vestas for the 950MW Moray East offshore wind farm 22km off Scotland’s east coast.
Under the terms of the contract, Fred Olsen Windcarrier will transport and install 100 V164-9.5MW machines for the project.
Installation is scheduled to start at the beginning of 2021.
Fred Olsen Windcarrier will deploy one of its Tern class vessels for the project, using the Port of Invergordon, which has been chosen as the pre-assembly harbour.
MHI Vestas chief operations officer Flemming Ougaard said: “Fred Olsen Windcarrier brings the right team and vessels for our jobs and we look forward to working with them again on the Moray East project.
“We are confident that with Fred Olsen Windcarrier as our installation partner we will have an efficient and safe installation of our wind turbines.”
Fred Olsen Windcarrier chief commercial officer Casper Toft said: “We have been working with MHI Vestas Offshore Wind on various offshore wind projects over the last years and during 2018, we installed more than 100 V164 turbines in the North Sea.”
The Moray East contract award is the first installation contract where the company has been contracted directly by MHI Vestas Offshore Wind.
“We look forward to delivering our precise marine operations in Scotland in 2021 supporting MHI Vestas Offshore Wind on this large project” added Toft.
The wind farm will cover a total area of 295 square km.
