Ocean Winds is marking its five-year anniversary by launching its “Beyond Energy” campaign at the WindEurope annual event in Copenhagen.
The campaign is aimed at showcasing its commitment to advancing clean energy generation and transforming how energy is produced, distributed, and integrated, with a focus on sustainability and empowering communities.
Established five years ago as a joint venture between EDP Renewables and Engie, Ocean Winds is keen to demonstrate how offshore wind is the foundation of an attainable and sustainable future.
It said the WindEurope event, which runs from 8-10 April, provides an opportunity to reflect on the past five years.
Since its launch, Ocean Winds now oversees 17 offshore wind projects with a combined capacity of nearly 19GW – enough to power 17 million households, the equivalent to the entire population of the Netherlands.
Ocean Winds has expanded beyond its initial 7GW portfolio inherited from its sponsors.
It has brought three projects into operation, totalling 1.5GW, commenced construction on four projects in France and the UK, contributing an additional 2GW, and secured seven new projects amounting to 12GW.
Currently, Ocean Winds is advancing in the simultaneous construction of four major projects in Europe: Moray West (pictured) in the UK, and French offshore wind farms Îles d’Yeu et Noirmoutier, Dieppe-Le Tréport, and EFGL.
It has strengthened its position in France by being awarded the Éoliennes Flottantes d’Occitanie floating project.
Poland also stands out as a key market, where Ocean Winds’ BC Wind project is in its last phase of development, selecting key suppliers like Crist, a local Tier 1 for its offshore substation.
Beyond Europe, Ocean Winds is expanding its presence in the Asia-Pacific region, having recently been awarded the Electricity Business License (EBL) for its Hanbando project in Incheon, South Korea.
