Lifting equipment that will be used to install the XXL monopiles for the Moray West offshore wind farm off Scotland has completed load testing.
The CAPE VLT-640 Triple, developed by Cape Holland, completed the lifting appliance certification process under Lloyd’s Register Code for Lifting Appliances in a Marine Environment (CLAME).
The CAPE VLT-640 Triple was subjected to a test load of 3245 tons and certified (SWL) for lifting piles up to 2400 tons.
The CAPE Vibro Lifting Technology will be used to upend and safely install monopiles for the Moray West offshore turbine and offshore substation platform foundations.
In March 2023 Cape Holland was awarded by installation contractor Boskalis for the delivery of a CAPE VLT-640 Triple spread.
The piles will subsequently be driven to final penetration with an impact hammer.
The monopiles have a top diameter of 7.5 metres, a bottom diameter of up to 10 metres, measure up to 93 metres in length and weigh up to nearly 2000 tons.
