Oman has commenced the development of its first wind turbine manufacturing facility in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, with commercial operations slated for 2026.
The $200 million project, led by Mawarid Turbine Company, will have an annual production capacity of up to 1GW, according to the Ministry of Energy.
It is expected to create approximately 1080 jobs and support the country’s renewable energy ambitions.
The factory will supply turbines for wind power plants, with production beginning in mid-2026.
It will also provide components for projects currently under construction while creating employment opportunities for job seekers.
The Energy Ministry said the plan will produce machines with 6.25MW and 9.6MW ratings.
The project includes technology licensing and knowledge transfer agreements with Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group, and a memorandum of understanding with OQ Group to establish the manufacturing plant in Duqm, according to reports.
A separate agreement has also reportedly been signed for the facility’s detailed design, and a cooperation memorandum has been agreed to train the first 350 job seekers for technical and specialised roles in the renewable energy sector.
The facility is expected to become the region’s first hub for wind turbine manufacturing, aligning with Oman’s strategy to localise renewable energy technology and strengthen its clean energy infrastructure.
