The chief executive of 3sun will chair a new special interest group for the offshore wind supply chain in eastern England.
Graham Hacon (pictured) will head the Offshore Wind Supply Chain Special Interest Group initiated by local trade organisation The East of England Energy Group (EEEGR), 3sun said.
He also sits on the EEEGR board of directors.
The new group aims to address industry issues and encourage local companies to work together.
Its members so far comprise 3sun and about 10 other companies specialising in the offshore wind industry. Interested parties can apply to join by 23 September.
The engineering outfit continues to move away from the oil and gas industry and into renewables, with offshore wind now accounting for 95% of its business.
This year it opened a base in Hull offering installation, inspection and maintenance services for offshore wind.
“Times are tough in the industry right now but there is a real opportunity in offshore wind, with more projects on the horizon,” Hacon said.
“We have the advantage of a lower cost base in this region but local companies must collaborate in order to gain the benefits of true cost reduction.”
