German developer ABO Wind has sold a 100MW subsidy-free wind farm in central Finland to Luxcara, an asset manager, for an undisclosed sum.
The ready-to-build project in the Haapajarvi municipality in Valikangas, is expected to be commissioned in mid-2020.
ABO Wind will build the wind farm, comprising 24 turbines with a height of 220 metres, as well as the corresponding substation and electrical infrastructure.
The developer has already connected two wind farms in Haapajarvi, with a total capacity of 30MW, to the grid in 2015 and 2017.
ABO Wind Finland market manager Klaus Potter said: “The electricity will be sold to an electricity purchaser directly via a power purchase agreement, without government subsidies.
“This shows that wind farms can produce electricity much more cheaply than coal or nuclear power plants.”
In Finland ABO Wind has sold ready-to-build projects totalling 150M.
The company’s first project sale in the country was the 50MW Polusjarvi wind farm, to local operator Suomen Hyotytuuli for an undisclosed price, in October 2018.
ABO Wind’s Finnish pipeline includes 100MW of ready-to-build wind farms that it is in the process of selling, or has yet to sell, with a further 500MW in development.
