Acciona has started commercial operations at the 145MW Palmas Altas wind farm in Texas.
The Spanish company said the €180m project, which is located in Cameron County, features 36 Nordex AW125/3150 turbines with 125-metre rotors on 87.5-metre steel towers.
Palmas Altas, which is Acciona’s ninth wind farm to enter service in the US, will generate 524 gigawatt-hours of electricity a year sold into the ERCOT-South Texas wholesale market.
Acciona said about 170 people were employed during peak of construction of the project, with a 10-strong operations team working full time on the wind farm.
Acciona has 1047MW of wind power capacity operating in the US and Canada, of which 866MW is in the former country.
The US capacity is installed in Oklahoma (329MW), Texas (328MW), the Dakotas (190MW), Illinois (101MW) and Iowa (6MW).
