Canadian outfit Capstone Infrastructure has received the all-clear to build the 10MW Snowy Ridge wind project in south-central Ontario.
The provincial Environmental Review Tribunal dismissed an appeal of the renewable energy approval (REA) for the five-turbine scheme.
Snowy Ridge, located in rural City of Kawartha Lakes, is part of a 66MW five-project feed-in tariff portfolio. The Independent Electric System Operator will buy the output for 20 years.
Senvion is lined up to supply MM92 2.05MW turbines and Capstone aims to commission the quintet this year.
Quebec-based general contractor Construction Energie Renouvelable (CER) started work at Snowy Ridge this month, said Capstone senior vice president communications Aaron Boles.
Construction is also underway on three other projects. CER has completed roads and poured two foundations at the 18.45MW Grey Highlands clean energy site.
All towers are up at 10MW Grey Highlands ZEP with commercial operation expected this quarter. The 18MW Ganaraska scheme is set for completion in the second quarter, with all foundations now complete and turbine delivery and erection expected in the coming weeks.
Capstone’s 10MW Settlers Landing wind farm has been held up by an unfavorable ERT ruling.
The tribunal allowed an appeal in part over habitat impacts and has directed the parties to propose remedies. Potential mitigation measures have yet to be revealed.
