Apex Clean Energy is exploring the feasibility of a 200MW wind project in western New York State.
The US developer has kicked off community and stakeholder consultations in and around Barre, located west of Rochester.
“Apex has spent the last few years working in Orleans County, and we’ve talked to hundreds of local people who are interested in bringing more wind energy to their county,” said Apex president and chief operating officer Mark Goodwin.
“We look forward to working with the people of Barre to bring the benefits of wind energy to their community.”
The area under consideration is on private land next to existing transmission lines.
Over the next six months the Virginia-headquartered proponent expects to submit a public involvement plan, consult with the community and plan site assessment studies.
The Heritage wind farm is subject to review by the New York Siting Board under the Article 10 process.
Apex expects to enter a payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) agreement with the local tax jurisdictions and a host community agreement with the town. These payments are projected to total more than $1.6m a year.
