The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Government has today launched a 109MW renewable energy auction.
The feed-in tariff competition seeks bids from onshore wind, solar and storage developers. Applicants eyeing the price support have until 13 May to submit their proposals.
Environment minister Simon Corbell said the auction would cement the territory’s progress towards a 90% renewable electricity goal by 2020.
“We expect up to $25m to be available to support about 36MW of battery storage to be rolled out in more than 5,000 Canberra homes and businesses over the next four years. This will represent the largest deployment outside of Germany,” Corbell said.
“PV battery storage will revolutionise the renewable energy sector by storing renewable energy so it is on demand exactly when we need it, reducing the need for network investment. It means households can capture the maximum value of the energy they are producing and I am excited that the ACT is once again at the forefront of investment and innovation in this sector.”
