UK Communities Secretary Sajid Javid has refused planning permission for Good Energy’s called-in 38.5MW Big Field wind farm in Cornwall.
Javid agreed with the Planning Inspector’s recommended that the appeal be dismissed and consent refused on visual grounds.
The Planning Inspector said the proposed turbines would be an “incongruous presence of significant scale, in terms of wind turbine height and the spread of the array, in many views inland from the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Heritage Coast”.
The Wiltshire developer was seeking to build an 11-turbine project in Week St Mary featuring up to 3.5MW hardware with 125-metre tip heights.
Big Field has six weeks to lodge an appeal with the High Court.
Good Energy had hoped to build Big Field on a subsidy-free basis.
The project was initially refused consent by Cornwall Council in October 2015.
