Bord na Mona has begun to export clean electricity from its 76MW Cloncreen wind farm in Ireland.
The semi-state company said Eirgrid and ESB Networks teams completed the grid connection works recently, allowing the wind farm to achieve first export of power ahead of original schedule.
The next phase is to ramp up dispatch testing over the coming weeks for the wind farm to operating at full capacity well ahead of the forthcoming winter season.
Bord na Mona’s head of renewable energy, John Reilly, wrote on Linkedin that the company is working “very hard” with joint venture partners ESB to get its other RESS 1 project, Oweninney Phase 2 (100 MW), operational before the winter sets in.
He continued: “We are delighted to be exporting power from Cloncreen, but even more important is the fact that this was achieved with no accidents on site.
“So well done to all involved for putting safety first in spite of the time pressures involved in delivering these big infrastructure projects.”
