Brazil’s energy planning company EPE has registered 21.76GW of wind projects interested in the country’s renewable power auction scheduled for December.
Developers registered 841 wind projects in what is the first step ahead of this year’s tender for the technology – the 2nd Reserve Energy Auction 2016, EPE said.
The deadline to register was 8 August and the tender is scheduled for 16 December.
Bidders will still need to prove the technical capability of the projects and provide financial guarantees before they can participate in the auction, it said.
Solar power projects with a combined 13.39GW were also registered.
Some 9.3GW of wind capacity was operating in Brazil at the end of last year, according to government figures.
The country has a 24GW wind target by 2024.
