Vancouver developer Zero Emission Energy Developments (ZED) is breaking ground this week at a pair of 15MW wind farms in British Columbia’s Okanagan region.
The Amec Foster Wheeler Black & McDonald joint venture won the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the Shinish Creek and Pennask developments.
SgurrEnergy will handle construction monitoring services.
Foundation work will kick off in June and turbine erection is scheduled to start in September, ZED president Alastair King told reNEWS.
Senvion is supplying 10 3.2MW turbines that will be curtailed at 3MW.
“We’re looking forward to seeing the turbines operating before the end of the year,” said King.
The two projects share a collector line and will tie into the BC Hydro electricity grid at the Pennask site, about 30km west of Summerland.
The utility signed 40-year energy purchase agreements under the province’s standing offer program for clean energy projects up to 15MW.
A third project, 15MW Septimus Creek, has been delayed to give BC Hydro more time for system upgrades.
“We hope to start construction at the end of this year and finish it off next year for COD in July of 2017,” said King.
