Canadian energy company Capital Power has unveiled plans for a 150MW wind farm extension in east-central Alberta.
The C$300m Halkirk 2 project would be built next to the existing 150MW Halkirk wind farm, which started operating in 2012 near Red Deer in Paintearth County.
Two meteorological towers were installed at the site in March 2016, with environmental assessments and wind farm design already underway.
Capital has applied for interconnection approval and intends to file for Alberta Utilities Commission permits later this year.
The proposed site has an attractive wind resource that is expected to produce a high capacity factor, according to Capital.
A community open house is scheduled on 5 and 6 October.
The proponent aims to commission Halkirk 2 in early 2018, subject to market conditions, government regulations and approval.
