Siemens Gamesa has secured a 20-year extension to a contract to maintain and service turbines at GreenPower’s 46MW Carraig Gheal wind farm in Scotland.
The project is located between Lochs Awe and Etive in Argyll and Bute and comprises 20 Siemens Gamesa 2.3-93 machines.
The manufacturer has already maintained and serviced the project for five years since Carraig Gheal became operational.
Data supplied to GreenPower by Siemens Gamesa using advanced telemetry onboard each turbine shows the lifetime of the wind farm may be extended to 25 years from the initial estimated 20 years without complication, it added.
The data also shows that the turbines can incorporate and benefit from Siemens Gamesa’s High Wind Ride Through technology, which allows operators to safely keep the hardware generating in wind speeds above the originally specified performance level.
Siemens Gamesa said both of these factors were part of the reason the company was successful in winning the contract extension.
Siemens Gamesa regional chief executive for service in Northern Europe and the Middle East Grant Walker said: “We are delighted to win this contract with Carraig Gheal.
“A 20-year contract of this scope is a vote of confidence in (Siemens Gamesa)’s ability to deliver consistent value for money and operational excellence both now, and in the long term.”
