Logistics operator Collett has completed the delivery of 18 components for three GE 2.75 120 145m wind turbines for phase three of the Muirhall wind farm in South Lanarkshire.
The blades, picked up at the Port of Grangemouth, measured 58.7 metres in length, with the overall load 63.35 metres. Special measures, such as street furniture removal and relocation of signage and lamp posts, were required to ensure delivery could take place.
Two vessels brought the components to the port. The first arriving from Poland carried nine turbine blades, while the second, from Turkey, carried nine tower sections.
The components were unloaded using a 110Te straddle carrier and various cranage equipment and held until construction at Muirhall started thus allowing Collett to provide a ‘just-in-time service.
The hubs and nacelles for each turbine came from Germany.
