Consumers Energy has broken ground at the 44MW Cross Winds 2 wind farm in Michigan.
The developer is working with lead contractor White Construction to build access roads and will begin work on 19 concrete foundations within two weeks.
The project is located in Tuscola county is expected to come online in January 2018.
It will feature 19 GE 2.3MW 116 turbines.
Phase 2 will bring the total size of the Cross Winds project to 115MW made up of 81 turbines.
Consumers Energy vice president of enterprise project management, engineering and services Dennis Dobbs said: “Production from this next phase of Cross Winds energy park helps us continue to meet customer demand sustainably with safe, reliable, affordable and clean energy.”
The company added that plans for phase 3 of the development have been approved by Columbia and Akron townships.
The final 76MW phase of the park is expected to go into commercial operation in 2020.
