DP Energy has submitted a development application for a 300MW combined wind and solar project at the Port Augusta Renewable Energy Park in South Australia.
The proposal is to construct a 150MW wind farm next to a 150MW solar farm on land on the coastal plain south-east of Port Augusta.
The company said by “balancing the relative qualities of wind and solar generation, the electricity generation profile can be tailored to achieve an extremely good match to the demand profile”.
This, it added, has the “dual benefit of reducing the need for expensive peaking power in times of high demand, while not contributing to oversupply often seen in the South Australian electricity market when wind generation capacity exceeds the demand”.
