A Dutch onshore wind project can proceed with installation of one of its turbines, following approval by the country’s defence ministry.
The ministry had previously refused approval for the second of nine turbines at the Windpark Greenport Venlo project, due to the impact on military radar coverage in the Netherlands.
After the construction of a new support radar in Belgium, TNO recalculated the impact of a wind turbine at this location, showing that the turbine would no longer be an obstacle to military radar coverage, followed by approval.
The wind turbine will be located at the end of the Mary Kingslystraat, on the grounds of Development Company Greenport Venlo.
Contractors H4A and Hecker & Zn will carry out the preparatory work, such as the construction of the foundation and the crane stand, before the summer.
If all goes well, the Nordex N133 wind turbine will be delivered in the third quarter of 2023, the same as others in the project.
Previously, Windpark Greenport Venlo concluded an agreement with Energiecoöperatie Samenstroom about the participation of local residents in the wind farm.
Residents can buy bonds, benefiting from the financial return of the wind farm.
