EDF Renewables Ireland has been given the go-ahead to build a 50MW wind farm on land to the east of Kilbane in County Clare.
The Lackareagh wind farm project was granted planning permission by An Coimisiún Pleanála, Ireland’s national independent planning body.
The wind farm will be located in the townlands of Killeagy and Shannaknock and is expected to become operational in 2030.
As well as up to seven wind turbines, the development will include access tracks, a substation, battery storage containers, a temporary construction compound, a permanent meteorological mast, underground cabling and a grid connection.
A community benefit fund will also be established to provide funding for local community initiatives and activities.
A spokesperson for EDF Renewables Ireland said: “We’re delighted to share that An Coimisiún Pleanála has granted planning permission for our Lackareagh wind farm in Co Clare.
“Once constructed and operational, Lackareagh will generate enough low-carbon clean energy to power 35,000 homes.”
