EDP Renewables has started operations at the 25MW Monte Mattina and 45MW Sant’Alessandro wind farms in Italy.
The projects will contribute to the reduction of approximately 86,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year and will supply electricity to more than 58,000 households.
Monte Mattina, which is located in the Campania region, has seven 3.6MW turbines, while Sant’Alessandro in the Basilicata region comprises 13 3.45MW machines.
EDP Renewables chief executive Miguel Stilwell d’Andrade said: “The start of operation of these two wind farms reaffirms our commitment to the Italian market and contributes to further consolidate our portfolio in the country.
“We are committed to being a key player in the promotion of green energy in this market, where significant growth is expected over the next decade.”
The commissioning of both projects brings EDPR’s operating capacity in Italy to 385MW.
About 100MW of this has been connected to the power grid this year.
