EDP Renewables North America is ramping up development of a 98MW wind farm in the southwest corner of Wisconsin.
The Quilt Block project has been in the works for more than a decade. The developer plans to build up to 49 turbines in Seymour Township, EDPR government affairs director Vanessa Tutos told reNEWS.
About 20 farmers in Lafayette County have signed leases to host turbines. The town of Seymour will receive $150,000 a year and the county will receive $200,000 a year for the first 20 years.
“We are fortunate to have developed a good project with strong community support, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with the Seymour Township community for many years,” said Tutos.
The developer is negotiating a power purchase agreement for the project. Total cost is estimated at $200m.
“We aim to begin construction in 2017 with operations beginning by the end of that year,” said Tutos.
