EDP Renewables is to sell electricity to Walmart from three wind farms in the US with a combined capacity of 605MW.
The power purchase agreements cover 233MW of the output from the projects and will enable the construction of the three wind farms, EDPR said.
Walmart is buying 123MW from the 205MW Bright Stalk project and 50MW from the 200MW Harvest Ridge facility both in Illinois, and 60MW from the 200MW Headwaters 2 plant in Indiana.
Bright Stalk and Harvest Ridge are scheduled to come online next year, with Headwaters 2 expected to be operational in 2020.
EDPR currently operates 797MW of wind energy in Illinois and the addition of Bright Stalk and Harvest Ridge will take that figure over 1.2GW.
In Indiana, the company operates 801MW and will add the 200MW Meadow Lake 6 project to that total by the end of the year, Headwaters 2 in 2020 and the 200MW Riverstart solar farm in 2022.
