EDPR has secured exclusive rights to develop a 219MW wind project in Lower Saxony, marking its first major wind venture in Germany.
The company won a land auction for the Uelzen-Suderburg site organised by Caeli Wind, a digital platform that identifies suitable locations for wind development.
EDP has since signed lease agreements with landowners covering approximately 2,700 hectares, with plans for up to 38 turbines.
The project is expected to generate more than 475GWh of clean electricity annually-enough to supply around 150,000 households and offset over 330,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
“This is an important step in our ambition to establish a multi-technology presence in renewables in Germany,” said Duarte Bello, CEO of EDP in Europe.
“We already have two utility-scale solar projects and two distributed generation projects in advanced stages of construction in the country, and a significant pipeline for the coming years. Being awarded with this project will strengthen our presence in the wind sector and will allow us to keep contributing to the energy transition in Germany.”
EDP entered the German market in 2022 via the acquisition of Kronos Solar EDPR.
The company now sees Germany as a core growth market, with plans to scale up both solar and wind.
Globally, EDP operates close to 11GW of installed wind capacity and has launched hybrid projects combining wind, solar, and storage in Europe and the United States.
