PJSC Enel Russia has obtained the right to put into commercial operation its first wind farm in Russia, a 90MW project located at Azov in the Rostov region.
Enel said that the right to sell the energy and capacity to the Russian wholesale electricity market was granted once the relevant notification was issued by the market’s trading system administrator.
Therefore, from 1 May the 26-turbine wind farm will start supplying electricity to the country’s wholesale electricity market.
Enel added that in the near future the project is expected to obtain confirmation on compliance with the localisation requirements, which will allow the company to receive 100% payment for capacity.
Construction across 133 hectares was carried out by Enel Green Power.
Initial investment in the Azov wind farm is estimated to be about €132m.
The wind farm will be able to generate around 320 gigawatt-hours of electricity a year, avoiding the annual emission of around 260,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Azov is included in the list of Rostov region priority large investment projects known as the ‘Governor’s hundred’.
PJSC Enel Russia general director Stephane Zweguintzow said: “We are witnessing a historical moment for Enel Russia.
“Azov wind farm, Enel Group’s first wind farm in Russia, allows us to contribute to our strategy to develop renewable energy in the country.
“Azovskaya WPP start of commercial operation is an important step for our company on the way of business transformation ensuring a lower carbon footprint.”
Enel Russia is also developing two more wind farms in Russia: the 201MW Kolskaya in Murmansk and 71MW Rodnikovksya in Stavropol.
