Enel Green Power secured onshore wind capacity totalling 80MW in Italy’s first renewable energy tender.
The awards are for three new projects totalling 60MW in Sicily, Molise and Campania, as well as the 20MW repowering of four operational facilities in Molise, Sardinia, Piedmont and Tuscany.
Construction on the new plants will start this year, with entry into service expected in 2021.
The repowering work will be carried out between 2020 and 2021, Enel said.
A total of 495MW was awarded to onshore wind in the auction.
Enel Green Power chief executive Antonio Cammisecra said: “With this award we confirm our dedication to the growth of renewables in Italy, a key country for our business and for our commitment in the energy transition towards a more sustainable electricity generation model.
“The investments in the development of new renewable capacity will contribute to the decarbonisation objectives of the group and the country, supporting the progressive replacement of fossil sources with those with zero emissions.”
Enel said building new capacity and upgrading existing plants in Italy are part of the group’s broader commitment to the growth of renewables and decarbonisation over the 2020-2022 period.
This will involve the development in the country of 700MW of new renewable capacity and a pipeline of about 1.3GW that can enter into service in the same period.
