Windparke Zeewolde has signed a 320MW turbine contract with Enercon for a repowering that will result in the largest onshore wind farm in the Netherlands.
Enercon will supply 74 turbines from its new EP3 platform and nine turbines from the existing EP2 platform for an undisclosed sum for the Zeewolde wind farm.
The repowering will begin in late 2019.
The largest EP3 turbines are 4.2MW and have a 220 metre tip height.
Enercon will also service the turbines under a long-term agreement.
Windparke Zeewolde managing director Sjoerd Sieburgh Sjoerdsma said: “We have selected Enercon based on the yield of the EP3 turbines, the good availability of the construction crews and the track record of partnership.”
Recently, Vattenfall signed a long-term purchasing agreement for electricity generated by the repowered wind farm.
Financing for the repowering is expected to close by the end of this year.
Windpark Zeewolde comprises a group of almost 200 locals, landowners and farmers.
The repowering involves replacing the existing 220 turbines with newer and bigger machines.
Balance of plant work related to the project includes a new substation and two transformers, being built by ABB Power Grids, which will feed power from the wind to the grid via a 6.5km cable.
The unit, which will also be used to deliver power from other wind and solar projects, will be up and running in 2020.
