DECC’s Energy Bill, which sets out the early closure of the Renewables Obligation for onshore wind, will move to report stage in the House of Commons on 14 March.
Shadow energy secretary Lisa Nandy has tabled a series of amendments aimed at moving back the proposed closure of the RO to onshore wind from 31 March 2016 to 1 March 2017. Current legislation sets out a closure date of 31 March 2017.
Liberal Democrat MP Alistair Carmichael has tabled an amendment removing DECC’s grace period criteria for onshore wind projects that had planning permission, a grid connection and land rights on or before 18 June 2015.
SNP energy spokesman Callum McCaig, meanwhile, has moved to insert a new clause that would return the power to close the RO to Scottish wind farms to Scottish ministers in Holyrood.
DECC intends for the Energy Bill, which must return to Lords following report stage, to be granted Royal Assent by the end of the month.
