Engie has committed to building the 55MW Sainshand wind farm in Mongolia after the project secured a $120m financing package.
The project stands to be the third privately-financed wind farm in Mongolia and the French utility’s first renewable project in the Asian nation.
It was backed by a group of international investors and financial institutions, Engie said.
Construction is to begin this summer, with commissioning expected in the second half of 2018.
The project will help Mongolia reach its 20% by 2020 and 30% by 2030 renewable energy goals.
