Engie is to supply at least half of Nestle Waters North America’s Texas operations with electricity from the 163MW Midway wind farm located in the US state.

The power will be used to operate Nestle Waters North America’s factories and distribution centres in in Travis, McLennan, Dallas and Harris counties from the project in San Patricio county.

The agreement also includes up to 70,500 renewable energy certificates per year from Midway.

Engie Resources senior vice president Graham Leith said: “We’re pleased to offer a suite of sustainability solutions that make it easy to be green.

“In this case, (Nestle Waters North America) took advantage of Engie’s easyRE product, which allows our customers to take service directly from an existing renewable energy source.”

Nestle Waters North America head of technical and production Alexander Gregorian said: “At Nestle Waters North America, we are committed to enhancing quality of life and contributing to a healthier future for individuals and families, communities and the planet.

“Transitioning our factories to clean, renewable energy is one important way we can achieve this goal.

“We are proud to partner with Engie and Midway Wind here in Texas, as we continue our journey toward achieving 100% renewable energy use in our operations.”

Nestle will use the power to drinks including Ozarka natural spring water and Nestle Pure Life purified water.

Earlier this year, Nestle Waters North America moved its facility in Sacramento, California to 100% renewable energy. It also announced, along with its parent company, a 15-year power purchase agreement with Engie Resources that will provide approximately 80% of the electrical load for five facilities in southeastern Pennsylvania.

By 2019, over 20% of the electricity Nestle uses in the US will be from renewable sources, the company said.
