Israeli company Enlight Renewable Energy and its Serbian partner New Energy Solutions have officially opened the almost 105MW Kovacica wind farm in Serbia.
The 104.5MW project is located in the municipality of Kovacica and features 38 GE 2.75-120 turbines.
Total investment in Kovacica was €189m, including 40km of roads, Enlight said.
Enlight has constructed over 130 projects with total capacity of over 500MW, and has a further 600MW in the pipeline ready to build.
The opening ceremony was attended by Serbia’s Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic and the Israeli ambassador to Serbia Alona Fisher-Kamm.
Antic said: “The government of Serbia has placed implementation of clean energy as one of its priorities in the energy sector, with the objective by next year to produce 27% of electric power from renewable energy sources and add to the network 500MW of wind power. This project proves that we are on the right path.”
Fisher-Kamm said: “The project wind park Kovacica resulted out of a fruitful cooperation and exchange of experience and know how between Israeli and Serbian companies as well as good mutual relationship between Israel and Serbia.
“The Embassy of Israel is dedicated to the creating of a platform linking potential investments in the Serbian economy with high technology possibilities which the Israeli companies possess.”
Enlight chairman Yair Serousi said: “At the time of climate changes, green energy and its even greater implementation and development is something we all have to work more on.
“We have invested in Serbia in the long-run and are interested in additional projects.”
