Renewables developer Envision Energy has commissioned a 90MW wind farm in the Yucatan region of Mexico.
The Peninsula project features 36 Envision 2.5MW turbines, which have hub heights of 120 metres and a rotor diameter of 110 metres.
The wind farm, jointly owned and developed by Envision Energy, Vive Energia, and Spanish conglomerate ACS, will supply over 300 gigawatt hours of electricity a year to the local grid.
It has two power purchase agreements, which were awarded in Mexico’s first and second renewable energy auctions.
The turbines include a cooling system and have been adapted to operate in the region’s extreme conditions in terms of temperature, salinity and humidity.
Envision will also service the turbines for 10 years using smart monitoring and control, predictive maintenance technology, as well as on-site services through its Latin American service team.
The team also provides similar services to the 70MW Dzilam wind farm, located 50km from Peninsula.
Envision Energy Latin America managing director Rafael Valdez Mingramm said: “Peninsula is Envision and Vive Energia’s second and biggest project in Mexico.
“We are proud to continue delivering our best solutions in Mexico jointly with our strategic partners, by powering communities with clean, affordable and secure energy.”
Yucatan’s energy undersecretary, Juan Carlos Vega, added: “This wind farm is also an important milestone for the state of Yucatan as it reaffirms our commitment to support the development of sustainable projects in the state, in collaboration with local communities and multiple stakeholders.”
