Developer Eon is preparing to break ground at the 278MW Twin Forks wind project in Illinois.
“This month we will begin construction on the next large US onshore project,” Eon chief executive Johannes Teyssen said in an earnings call.
“It will be Eon’s third wind farm to be located in Illinois, further diversifying our portfolio, which so far has a strong focus on Texas,” said Teyssen.
The Macon County board last week approved a transportation impact analysis, clearing the way for roadwork to begin.
Vestas will supply 139 V110 2MW turbines to the project, which spans 24,000 acres in central Illinois.
Chicago-based LDP Consulting Engineers said it has been selected to provide the electrical engineering design for the collector system, substation and transmission line.
Total projected investment is about $500m and the project will generate an estimated $46m in tax revenue payments to Macon County over 30 years, Eon said in regulatory filings.
“Twin Forks is scheduled to reach full commercial operation in May 2017,” said Teyssen.
