Eon plans to help stabilise the German electricity grid by integrating a wind farm for the first time into the company’s virtual power plant to provide balancing power.
The German company said electricity from the wind farm in Brandenburg is incorporated by the virtual power plant, which bundles 3.8GW of generation output from various renewable and industrial sources.
“This way, sufficient capacity which the grid can access is always available,” Eon said.
It said the transmission system operators have set up standardised rules to enable the marketing of wind power and the process is now being tested during a two-year pilot phase.
